Many rappers call themselves rockstars because they want to convey a sense of rebellion, nonconformity, and larger-than-life persona that is often associated with rockstars. By adopting the title of rockstar, rappers are aligning themselves with a certain level of fame, extravagance, and a "bad boy" image that is often associated with rock music. Punk bands often had a different approach to touring compared to traditional rockstars. While rockstars were known for their lavish tour riders, extravagant accommodations, and partying, punk bands were more focused on the music and the DIY ethos.
